Handle Stress in Your Marriage

With high mortgages, job losses and the economic situation putting further stress on people, marriages are being affected. How do we cope with the stresses of life and the changes that occur?

Some people have seen their future savings for a home or retirement on their investments in the stock market eaten into. Others are struggling day to day just to keep food on the table and the family clothed. I know what that one is like.

We spent many years in that situation where experts told you to save but there simply wasn’t anything to save because we’d chosen to live on one income, believing it was a better start for our children and better for our marriage. Looking back and seeing the results of that choice on our marriage and family relationships we both still believe we made the right choice, at least for us.

So yes, sometimes was tight but the way we overcome the stress was by always being there for each other, by talking things out and not bottling them up, by doing inexpensive things like going out on a picnic or spending time with friends or having a romantic dinner with candle and soft music at home

Sometimes we went for a walk or went window shopping or to look at exhibition houses. It didn’t matter that we couldn’t buy the things. It didn’t make us envious. It was just a day out and we could dream about one day – maybe. But mostly we just enjoyed being together. It didn’t matter what we did.

Above all, we assured each other of our love and showed it in little ways, a kiss, a hug, holding hands. Experts agree that showing affection reduces stress. Can you think of a better way? I can’t.
