Adding your own touches to your decor by creating handmade artwork makes your house feel homey. These ideas work great in any space and they are easy to make.
Fabric Patchwork
Here is another easy fabric wall hanging, much like the one described in the previous article, Projects from Leftover Fabric. The best part is that this one is even simpler to make.
Simply cut squares or rectangles from fabric and attach them in an alternating pattern as shown in the images below. The shapes can be cut from fabric you already have or you can purchase fabric remnants or quilter’s squares.
You can make the entire project without sewing if you prefer. Just attach the squares or rectangles from the backside with fabric glue or by fusing them with seam tape then hem the edges of the entire piece.
Choose tone on tone fabrics or choose those with some contrast for a different look. Alternatively, you can mix prints and solids or mix different prints together. Leather (or vinyl) in different shades adds texture, and mixed textures such as suede and leather create a really unique and interesting look. Stretch the finished piece over a frame or canvas for more impact.
Wooden Patchwork
This is another simple, inexpensive project that anyone can make. You will need at least six squares or rectangles cut from light craft wood, depending on the size and layout you want the finished piece to be.
You should be able to find pre-cut pieces in craft stores or the craft section of a discount store. Paint or stain the pieces, using tone on tone or contrasting colors. If you use stain, it is a good idea to add a clear top coat.
Once the pieces have had a chance to dry completely, attach them to each other with wood glue. When the glue dries, add a picture hanger or wire to the back and hang your artwork. Trim with lightweight molding if desired.
