“Papa Wayne” with two of our kids, Murphy and Tabby.
You know who you are. Maybe you have human children too. Maybe you don’t. Maybe you’re dad to a dog, a cat, an iguana, or a snake. It doesn’t matter what kind of pet you have, the fact remains that you provide for it, care for it, and love it.
And your pets love you too, you Pet Papas out there.
Dogs appreciate the walks –or maybe the evening or morning runs if you are an exercise-with-your-dog kind of dad. They appreciate that you mow the grass so they have well-maintained yards to play in –maybe even to play fetch in with you. (As well as do other duty in.) If you’re the kind of dad that allows them on the furniture –or even better yet, on the bed at night —wow! That’s some lucky dogs! They definitely appreciate that.
Or maybe you are a cat dad. If you clean the litter box, let them stay inside, and put up with their catitudes what more can they ask for? (Besides maybe a treat or two every now and then and a good scratching post.) If you’re that kind of cat dad, then you’re very loved and appreciated indeed.
Reptiles maybe don’t require the same amount of attention that cats and dogs do, but they still need care. They need clean and warm tanks, food, and a safe quiet spot to call their own. Maybe you’re the kind that takes your snake for walks. (Hey, when we lived in Jacksonville there were a lot of boa dads who often took their snakes to the beach!) They appreciate all the time they get with you.
Whatever kind of dad you are to whatever kind of pet you have, if you provide a safe home, spend time with your pet, and love it until the day it has to cross the Rainbow Bridge, then you’re the kind of Pet Dad this blog is saluting today. May you have the happiest of Father’s Days!
