I just want to take a minute to wish you and yours a happy Fourth of July. I hope you and your families have an enjoyable and safe celebration.
We started celebrating yesterday with a barbeque at my brother in law’s house, followed by our own fireworks show, lots of sparklers for all the kids, and my brother in law playing his bass guitar for us. We had a great time, didn’t get home until after midnight, and we plan to make this an annual tradition.
We missed the parade this morning, one which we usually attend but we all slept in. Still, everyone is relaxed and content. We’re had a quiet picnic at home this afternoon. I made potato salad and a tossed salad and my husband grilled steaks. Later, we went to a local fireworks display that is always a crowd pleaser. It was beautiful.
This is one of the nicest Independence Days I can remember. It was the least planned, yet the most relaxed, and fun. This is how it should be. Holding hands and watching our children giggle and clap with delight at each firework, and relaxing and enjoying time together. The fireworks made me think of “the rockets red glare” and reminded me how lucky I am to be an American.
I hope each one of you enjoys this day to the fullest. Eat, drink, be merry, but also be proud to be an American. Take a moment to remember what our Founders fought for, and to embrace what freedom and independence really mean. Take a moment to think about the men and women of our armed forces, away from home, serving this great country, bringing freedom to others as well as fighting to protect our own. To them and to you, I wish a memorable, safe, and happy Independence Day.
