I know, even before I write it, that this is going to sound dumb so bear with me here; but I never realized there were people out there with Leap Year birthdays. Yes, I get that people are born every day and it stands to reason that there are babies right now being born on this illustrious day of February 29th. What I mean is that I just had never thought about it. And apparently, some patients who can choose their due dates (via scheduled c-section), are leaping at the chance to give birth to little leapers.
Why Leapers Are Special
Your chances of being born (or your baby being born) on February 29th are about 1 in 1,5000. There are only about 4 million leapers world wide.
Your leaper baby is the reasons the seasons are the when they are! (Without leap year, spring would come earlier and earlier every year.)
They remain youthful for much longer than the rest of us! (Well at least that’s what they say on websites dedicated to this special day.
Problems Leapers Face
But should you rush to try to have your baby today? Well apparently, it’s not all roses. Here are some problems that leapers face:
Computers refusing to acknowledge Feb. 29th as an option for a birthdate when you register for things online.
Getting arrested because your birth date and expiration date on your driver’s license don’t match. (Really, I read about this one, but I have to admit it makes me question the intelligence of the police officer involved if that was the only reason the individual was arrested.)
Only having a birthday every four years. Adult leapers have reported some ‘feelings of sadness’ for not having their specific special day more often. (Although I gotta tell you, if this was one of my kids–as long as there were a party–they wouldn’t care.)
So would you do all you could to encourage the baby to arrive–or discourage his arrival?
