Happy Mother’s Day!

Hey, Moms! Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you aren’t doing a darned thing. I hope you’re kicking back with your feet up, taking advantage of this one special day that’s just for you. It’s okay to be self-indulgent today; it’s your day.

Don’t do dishes, don’t you cook, don’t lift a finger today. If you’re a single mom, hit McDonald’s if you can’t afford to go for a sit down dinner, but definitely avoid your kitchen at all costs. Moms with big kids, spouses, or significant others, sit down. Somebody else can do all the stuff you usually do, and what they don’t get done will still be there tomorrow.

Relax!

I plan to do just that. With the help of my husband my kids usually make me breakfast. I lounge around indulging in more coffee than usual and then I call my mom. I sometimes go out to lunch or shopping with a friend. It’s my day off.

My husband will either cook dinner, grill something, or we’ll go out to eat. The kitchen is officially off limits today. Yay! The washing machine or dryer might be running, but it won’t be because I set foot in the laundry room. Nope, not gonna happen.

I will of course spend some time with my kids but I’ll also make some time for myself. It’s not kid’s day, after all; that falls on the other 364 days of the year. This is our official day, moms. It’s only once every twelve months, so don’t you dare feel guilty.

I know too many moms who feel guilty for even thinking about taking off one day out of 365. They say they feel “selfish.” I used to think that too, but my husband convinced me that I shouldn’t, that I deserve the break. You deserve it too, so go ahead, live it up!
