Happy National Margarita Day!

Do like Pink and raise your glass. Today is National Margarita Day! (Thanks for the reminder CBS News.)

For some parents every day should be National Margarita Day… for others it is.

We all know some moms and dads who joke that their children drive them to drink, but is the statement really something to laugh at?

If you are neglecting your kid because you are too busy imbibing in an all-day happy hour, then you have major issues that reach well beyond a day that recognizes a popular alcoholic beverage.

However, if you are like most parents, then lubricating your throat with a salty frozen cocktail is something that you barely do any more, so partaking in a day set aside to honor blender booze, may be exactly what the doctor ordered.

For the record, I am by no means condoning excessive drinking. In fact, I gave up alcohol consumption 12 years ago, so some might opine that I should steer clear of writing about National Margarita Day. Still, I can’t help muse about the irony of the day as it pertains to parents.

How many adults drink more now than they did prior to having kids? I don’t have the time or money to conduct a scientific poll, but I would venture to guess that the number is dramatically low.

After all, who has time to drink?

When your kids are infants, you’d rather sleep than drink. When they become mobile, you don’t have the energy to drink, and when they are teens you don’t want them experimenting with your alcohol so you don’t even bother to drink. And once they’re adults, you’re too broke to buy a drink.

Funny how the world works.

Are you planning to toast National Margarita Day or is the celebration not worth the time or energy?
