Happy New Year, Home Based Professionals

Whether you are the type to make New Year’s resolutions or not, the New Year brings with it a certain type of fresh energy. It’s not like you are starting something over again, because everything that you have already done is still in force. However, something about changing the date on the calendar seems to inspire us to try a little harder and do a little better than we have done before.

I am not the type to make New Year’s resolutions, but I am excited about the energy of a new year. It reminds me of why I do not make resolutions. Instead, I try to remain inspired to improve myself and my businesses each and every day. Each day brings with it a new opportunity for growth and for learning and a new opportunity to do my very best. The arrival of a new year means the arrival of 365 more chances to do the best that I can.

For those of you that do make resolutions for your home – based businesses, it is important that you use them as tools to guide you and inspire you to do your best work. Sometimes, even the most inspired resolution makers fall into the trap of making great resolutions and then beating themselves up if they are unable to keep one or more of them. If you catch yourself doing that, remind yourself that the purpose of making those resolutions was to inspire you. You can still do your best to strive for whatever you resolved to do each day, even if the numbers will not add up to the goal that you set or you slip back into an old pattern of behavior for a period of time. Slipping up is part of being human. If you let your resolutions inspire you instead of using them to criticize yourself, you may find that you brush off those slip ups and keep on trying instead of abandoning your effort.

Best wishes for a happy and successful 2012!
