Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the long anticipated sixth movie in the Harry Potter series. This is a pivotal movie, as it really shifts the focus of the series as the conflict becomes darker and the danger becomes more real.
This film took a lot more liberties from the book from the other movies. It opens with Harry in a train station, not at the Dursleys. From there the film takes us through the beginning of the book and Harry’s visit to school. The action continues to build as Harry returns to school. The movie also follows Draco’s quest with more detail than the book.
Overall the movie was fun and enjoyable. It covers the basic outlines of the plot and leaves just as many questions unanswered as book six does. The relationship between Ginny and Harry build and there is an added fight scene involving the two of them. Over the past movies I have not been upset with the choices that they made to delete certain scenes or information from the movie, but this movie I was disappointed by how many important things were cut from the movie. It is nice that the movie jumps right into the action. The fight scenes are great. I was disappointed with the last fight scene in the movie however. The movie ends differently from the book, but I thought that it stayed true to the feelings conveyed in the story.
Overall I would recommend this movie. It fits in with the series and delivers another great Harry Potter movie. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is rated PG. It is actually a lot less violent then the previous two or three Harry Potter movies. The relationship themes are more focused on and there is more kissing. You may want to view it before taking your young children to see it.
