Maybe you just aren’t into all the spooky stuff. Do you prefer the idea of Harvest instead of Halloween? Maybe you still have little ones that could become scared easily or maybe your little goblins have all grown up. For any number of reasons, including faith for some, there are many people who prefer the Harvest look to the Halloween scene.
Harvest decorating lets you use those richly colored, beautiful items right through Harvest and into Thanksgiving (if your pumpkins and other natural elements last that long – you may end up needing to replace some of these items before we reach Thanksgiving).
I saw some beautiful Indian corn, gourds, and small pumpkins at the grocery store the other day. I especially like the creamy colored gourds, with just a hint of that pumpkin color. Displayed with a few miniature pumpkins, these would make a very pretty porch decoration or even a centerpiece. Fill up a great basket or a bowl with these items, or arrange them on a platter.
We have all heard of filling up baskets with fruit to add some color. What we often forget is that vegetables also come in great colors and make lovely displays. Red, yellow, orange, and green peppers are beautiful when polished up to a high shine and placed in a basket lined with linen. Eggplant in deep, dark purple looks elegant with vegetables in a variety of colors. Aside from looking nice, they may also tempt the taste buds, but you will have fresh vegetables at your fingertips if you would like to eat them. Just pick up a few more for your display.
You can also mix fruits and vegetables together for a colorful, natural, mouthwatering display. It is a veritable cornucopia, so keep refreshing it straight through until Turkey Day.
