It’s been nearly eight years since I posed in front of New York’s most famous Christmas tree. The towering Rockefeller Center Christmas tree serves as a seasonal centerpiece in the Big Apple during the holidays, but it’s just one of many, many highlights you will experience if you decide to spend December in NYC.

Soak in spectacular views of the city from 70 stories up at 30 Rock’s Top of the Rock observation deck.
Kick your holiday season into gear by taking in a magical Christmas performance at Radio City Music Hall.

Stroll up Fifth Avenue toward Central Park and window shop at famous stores like Harry Winston, Tiffany, Bergdorf Goodman, and FAO Schwarz. You can even make a pit stop at the Plaza Hotel, which is home to the new Eloise at the Plaza store in its shopping concourse.
Get your camera out at Central Park West and 79th Street where the American Museum of Natural History boasts a picture-perfect Christmas tree decorated with origami ornaments. This year’s paper decorations feature a space exploration theme to mark the 10th anniversary of the museum’s Rose Center for Earth and Space.
Another prime photo-op is located on the east side, at Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street. That’s where you will find another awe-inspiring Christmas tree at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is adorned with life-like angels and Nativity scene figurines, which were made in 18th-century Naples. The exquisite ornaments depict shepherds, animals and the three wise men.
Finally, don’t miss out on photographing the Cathedral of St. John the Divine’s “Peace Tree.” The massive spruce is decorated with thousands of origami paper cranes in memory of a little Japanese girl named Sadako, who died from leukemia after being exposed to radiation from the World War II bombing of Hiroshima.
