When it comes to throwing a kiddie party you don’t want to compete with the moms at my daughter’s school. Oh.my.word. These ladies don’t mess around. It’s all or nothing with these shindigs, and by all I mean call MTV because My Super Sweet 16 can’t hold a candle to some of the pimped out parties my six-year-old has attended in the last few months.
Remember when I described the coloring page activity I had at my daughter’s sixth birthday party? The pages were there to keep the kids entertained while waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive. Well, apparently, when you host a mega-kiddie party, animal coloring pages are so 2008. To spice things up before the party even gets started you have a chef come in and teach the kids how to make cake popsicles in the shape of ice cream cones.
Here’s how:
ICE CREAM CONE CAKE POPS
Ingredients:
1 13-by-9-inch baked cake (any flavor)
2 cups frosting
48 mini ice cream cones
1 pound Wilton pink candy melts
Silicone mat
Lollipop sticks
Plastic wrap
Sprinkles, M&Ms, Gummy bears, chocolate chips or other favorite candy toppings
Styrofoam block for holding cake pops
Wilton dark chocolate candy melts
Directions:
Either bake or buy the cake.
Crumble cake into fine crumbs into a large bowl.
Add frosting and blend together.
Scoop cake and frosting mixture into 1.5-inch size balls and lay on silicone baking mat.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for several hours.
Melt chocolate until smooth.
Remove cake balls from refrigerator and dip end of lollipop stick in chocolate and push in flat end of cake ball.
Wait 30 seconds for chocolate to cool.
Push opposite end through bottom end of ice cream cone.
Give kids spoons and have them cover cake ball with chocolate. Because the cake ball is cold the chocolate will set up very quickly.
Add sprinkles and a dollop of dark chocolate, then top with candies.
Place stick in Styrofoam block and wait until chocolate coating cools and pops are ready to eat.
