Have Any of These Foods Ever Made You Feel More Passionate?

From time to time I run across articles or stories about food affecting sex drive. A recent copy of Woman’s World had such an article and suggested eating them would enhance a couple’s sex life.

But this article was a little different. It not only told what foods would affect love levels, but it also gave the scientific explanation why.

Don’t believe everything you read.

The above saying came to mind for some of these. Where applicable, they were noted.

The Foods and Their Effects

• Hot, spicy foods

They release endorphins which can make a person feel more passionate.

Wayne eats a lot of spicy food, but I don’t know if that’s why he’s as passionate as he is or not.

As for me…I like a little pizzazz in my spices, but I don’t know if they’ve ever contributed to heightening my sex drive.

• Honey

Apparently vitamin B and boron, which honey is loaded with, balance hormones like estrogen. More balance leads to more relaxed and happy feelings, which can lead to more amorous ones.

Have I ever noticed feeling more amorous after drinking tea with honey or eating a yummy slice of baklava? Nope. But it’s a good excuse to eat some honey and test the theory and make sure I’m not missing something.

• Oatmeal

The nervous system supposedly feels soothed after eating oats. This makes people feel closer to one another and puts them in the mood for love.

Sometime I crave a good oatmeal cookie or bowl of oatmeal on a cold winter morning, but it’s only ever soothed my tummy, never made me seek out Wayne for a romp.

Garlic

Say what? I thought this one drove people away, but I guess not. Garlic contains allicin, which increases blood flow thus boosting mood and energy. It was even reported that a study found the smell of garlic bread “promotes feelings of love and togetherness.”

I’m thinking maybe it’s because we associate that with Italian food. Like a romantic candlelit Italian dinner. That’s always made me feel closer to Wayne.

Chocolate

This one has been commonly reported. That the phenylalanine in chocolate imitates the same effects of feeling in love or falling in love.

I don’t know why I enjoy chocolate as much as I do. All I know is my taste buds have a love affair with it all its own, forget how it makes me feel.

• Baked goods

The smell of baked goods brings to mind memories of childhood and happiness, which makes us associate that with love.

I sure feel happy eating sweets, which is maybe why I do it so often. But as for love? Not so sure about this claim.

Coffee

I swear, they can find evidence that coffee is a drug for just about everything. Now apparently in addition to boosting energy it also stimulates passion by arousing the center in our brains that control love and arousal.

I’ve never drank a cup of coffee and wanted nookie. I’ve gotten a pleasant buzz, yes, and the get up and go to get stuff done, but never to take my clothes off and get busy in the sack.
