I am a homemaker myself. I made that choice when I decided to have kids. But, the term “homemaker” has always sounded old-fashioned to me. Anyone else feel this way? Well, whether or not it sounds old-fashioned, when we make the choice to stay home with our kids and be Moms, and give up careers, or other interests, we are in fact, making homes…right?
Well, there is a line of scrapbooking papers and embellishments that I have to admit caught my eye. It is called Modern Homemaker by October Afternoon. This line is one that I want to add to my wish list right away.
While it seems a bit ironic to call it Modern Homemaker when the theme seems to take a 50’s feel to what a homemaker is, I still love the whimsical papers, and embellishments and can’t wait to get my hands on some of this stuff! The papers have fun names like: Clothespins, Percolator, Flour Sack, and Canning Jar. There is a huge die cut of a house that any modern homemaker would want to live in, or use as a fun addition to her scrapbook page. You can even get a mini-album shaped like a house if you wish!
They have stamps that include a vacuum, a cute little 50’s Mom, and an old-fashioned cat clock to name a few. One of my favorite parts of this line are the “wild cards” which come in a set of 9, 2.5″ x 3.5″ cards that look like advertisements from the 50’s. Some of the stickers in the collection include a Dad reading a newspaper, a Mom vacuuming, clothes drying on a clothesline, irons, aprons, and spatulas.
I think this line would be so cute to scrapbook some old photos of my Mom, or maybe your Grandmother. Or, maybe, just maybe, the scrapbooking Moms of this world can actually scrapbook a page about themselves! The colors are bright, yet have a vintage flair. You will love them, whether you consider yourself a “homemaker” or not!
