The countdown to Thanksgiving is on, so let’s talk stuffing.
Not the kind that you eat with Tom the Turkey. I’m talking about stuffing sweet treats into cute decorations that your kids can make themselves.
The following Thanksgiving-themed art projects make ideal additions to your dinner table. What’s more, they’ll last a lot longer than the holiday spread:
TURKEY CANDY HOLDER
Materials:
Craft foam sheets (use brown, orange, red, and yellow)
Small terracotta pot
Scissors
Craft glue or glue stick
Googly eyes
Treats to fill turkey: You can use candy, nuts or dried fruit
Directions:
Cut out 3-6 feathers from the orange, red and yellow craft foam sheets.
Cut out an oval turkey head from the brown craft foam sheet.
Cut out a beak from the orange craft foam sheet.
Cut out heart-shaped feet for each turkey from the yellow craft foam sheet.
Use the glue to attach the feathers to the back of pot.
Glue on the googly eyes and the beak to the brown oval to create the turkey head. Then, glue the head to the front of the pot.
Glue the pot onto the heart-shaped feet and fill with treats.
Note: You can make multiple turkeys and sit them at each place setting or you can make one large turkey and use it as a centerpiece.
CANDY CORNUCOPIAS
Materials:
Sugar ice cream cones
Tubes of frosting with writing tips
Fillings: You can use gumdrops or other types of small candy or nuts and dried fruit to fill cornucopias
Directions:
Use the tubes of frosting to pipe out the names of each of your dinner guests.
Place the cones onto a napkin or a piece of colored construction paper.
Fill each cornucopia with the small edible treats. The fillings should be spilling out a little to mimic a real cornucopia.
Arrange each candy cornucopia near individual place settings on the Thanksgiving dinner table. They can be used as place cards or you can give them out as party favors at the end of the meal.
