Having Patience with Money

For most of us, having a home business is not a route to “getting rich quick.” That does not mean that many of us do not hope and wish and work to get more money in our lives. Too much stress and worry about money, however, can cause us to get desperate and nervous and impatient and this can cause us to make poor business decisions. Having patience, on the other hand, may be a better road to take—especially when it comes to money.

Impatience with money—whether it is generating income and revenue for our home businesses, or trying to save, or making spending decisions can cause us to make ill-informed choices—can be the downfall of a home business owner. Building a business takes time and growing income takes time. I have also found that just learning about how money works in a small business takes time as well, so having patience with money and money issues is a key element to building a solid business.

This is not to say that we might not have to make quick decisions or make a financial choice that is good in the short-term, but overall, if you are able to work on being more patient with money issues in your home business, you may learn to make more solid and responsible choices in every facet of your business operations. If there are financial areas where you are feeling especially insecure, get some mentoring or advice, take a class, or see a financial advisor (or even read a book or do some other research) and take the time to learn about it so that you can make better decisions. It is far better to take a little extra time to get educated than to make financial decisions under stress and impatience.
