Memorial Day may still be a few weeks away, but it’s never too early to get started planning your next family vacation. Given that Hawaii is home to one of the heaviest concentrations of military forces on this planet, it is no surprise that establishments there offer deeply discounted travel deals to those currently serving (or retired) from the military.
Here are just a few special “Military Appreciation” promotions being offered in the islands to salute the men and women of the U.S. armed forces.
As a way of saying thank you to our troops, Castle Resorts & Hotels Castle is offering an additional 10 percent off its already discounted military rates on stays from May 1 through June 30 at all of its properties in Hawaii and Saipan.
Here’s a look at some of the rates per island:
· $81 on the Big Island
· $125 on Kauai
· $98 on Maui
· $80 on Molokai
· $62 on Oahu
· $89 on Saipan
Participating properties include Kona Reef, Kona Bali Kai, Waimea Country Lodge, Hilo Hawaiian Hotel on the Big Island; Kamaole Sands on Maui; Kaluakoi Villas on Molokai; Waikiki Shore and Hokele Suites on Oahu; Kiahuna Plantation & the Beach Bungalows, Poipu Shores, Makahuena at Poipu, Kaha Lani, Lanikai Resort and Lae Nani Resort on Kauai; and Aquarius Beach Tower on Saipan.
Remember: Guests must provide a valid U.S. military identification upon check-in to qualify for the special rates.
The Maui Ocean Center is inviting all service men and women (and their families) to check out the newest addition to its tanks—a 6-foot tiger shark named Ikaika. The stealthy swimmer is getting used to his new home in the Open Ocean exhibit, a 750,000-gallon tank featuring a 54-foot acrylic tunnel that allows guests to stand nose to nose with a variety of sharks. (The center is also home to scalloped hammerhead sharks, sandbar sharks, black-tip reef sharks, gray reef sharks and white-tip reef sharks.)
In honor of Memorial Day the Maui Ocean Center is offering discounted military rates to service men and women.

Here’s an excerpt regarding the ways troops can save money while spending time in paradise:
If you are in the military or retired from the service then a vacation in Hawaii is more than affordable, it can be down right cheap. From hotels, to rental cars, local attractions to restaurants, the savings are BIG. For example, a room at Hawaii’s Hale Koa hotel, a resort for the exclusive use of retired and current members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, and National Guard, will cost at least 50 percent less than a room at hotels with comparable amenities just down the road. And guests at the Hale Koa won’t pay the 11.4 percent Hawaii sales tax on rooms – easily $20 a day at a civilian hotel. So take advantage-you deserve it!
