To reassure visitors that all is well in paradise following last week’s 6.7-magnitude earthquake centered off the Big Island of Hawaii, various resorts around the state are offering post-earthquake travel deals.
For example, the Big Island’s luxurious Mauna Lani Resort (I’ve stayed here on several occasions and highly recommend it) is currently offering a post-earthquake package dubbed “Mauna Lani — Shaken, Not Stirred.” Deals start at $390 per night (plus taxes), and include two pineapple martinis, daily buffet breakfast for two, daily use of snorkeling equipment, access to the Mauna Lani Sports Fitness Club, nightly Hawaiian entertainment, tours of Mauna Lani’s historic fishponds and petroglyph fields, cultural activities, and more. The package will be available through December 19th and cannot be combined or used with other promotions.
On the island of Oahu, the Aqua Waikiki Wave is letting visitors know that the earthquake did nothing to set back their $7 million transformation by offering a “Get Acquainted” special available through November 20th, with a Superior Wave room discounted to $106 per night and an AlohaSuite Partial Ocean Wave room at $174 per night, plus taxes. (Rates will go up beginning January 1, 2007 with prices ranging from $200 for a Superior Wave room to $310 for an AlohaSuite Partial Ocean Wave room.)
The hotel offers a mix of 78 of family, junior and honeymoon suites, complete with ultra-plush mattresses, marble-top vanities, flat-screened TVs, DVD, free WIFI and, in the AquaKIT, a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator.
In addition, to receiving a daily complimentary continental breakfast and free use of the hotel’s business center visitors can tour the new lobby entrance, which is decked out in white marble and artwork featuring Hawaii icon Duke Kahanamoku riding a “Waikiki Wave,” painted in the 1920s by famed artist Charles W. Bartlett, whose work also adorns all the guest rooms.
