I have always said “Heroes” star Hayden Panettiere looks so sweet and innocent. After all, Dooney & Burke chose her to be the new face of their line of handbags. She just turned 18, but there is already a warrant out for her arrest – in Japan!
The young star joined other activists near Taiji in southwestern Japan. The group, known as Save the Whales, were protesting and trying to prevent the killing of a group of whales and dolphins by fishermen. They used surfboards to paddle to the pod of dolphins to try to reach them before they were herded into a nearby cove for massacre. But, the fishemen were not playing around – video footage of the confrontation showed them using their boat propeller to halt the activists’ progress then lashed at them with a boat hook. For their interference, a warrant was issued for the activists.
Hayden has said the warrant will not deter her from protesting again, saying, “I’d do it again. Very possibly, might do it again. I was excited that people were interested in what we did. In [Hollywood], you tend to only get publicity for not wearing underwear or going to rehab.”
Speaking of rehab, Lindsay Lohan served a whole 84 minutes of jail time Thursday for her latest DUI offense. She turned herself in to the LA women’s detention center in Lynwood at 10:30 a.m. and she was released at 11:54 a.m. Why did she serve such a short time? Well, other than the fact that she is a movie star? Her sentence was reduced due to overcrowding at the jail and the fact that she committed a non-violent crime.
Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the sheriff of LA county, said that Lindsay did not receive special treatment because she is a star. He stated that each day between 30 and 50 women are released early.
In case you have forgotten, Lindsay was arrested in July for chasing the mother of her former assistant. Her final sentence was to enter rehab, perform community service, and spend 24 hours in jail. And in case you are keeping track, she spent two minutes longer in jail than Nicole Richie, but far less than Paris Hilton, who spent 23 days in jail earlier this year.
