Caroline is kidnapped from her school by a woman who looked eerily like Savannah. The police can’t find any solid leads, and Savannah is frantic. Two months go by, and there is no new information. Desperate, Savannah goes to see her husband’s former best friend, Major Christopher Dane. He’s had a special assignment in the Army, one of getting people out of where they shouldn’t be, and she knows that if anyone can find Caroline, it’s Dane. There’s just one problem. She broke Dane’s heart when she married her husband, and she doesn’t know if he’ll help her.
He agrees and arranges for all his old buddies to come back on the job and take the case. Within just a few days, they’ve uncovered plenty of leads to work on and Savannah feels more hopeful than she has in two months. Things become more complicated as she and Dane start to remember some of the feelings they once had for each other, but Dane won’t let himself soften toward her. He’s been through a lot, more than Savannah even knows or understands, and he’s not in a position to fall in love.
This was a great novel of suspense. I loved the banter between Dane and his men, the tension between Savannah and Dane, and the conclusion was really awesome. I highly recommend this novel, which is a finalist for this year’s Whitney Award.
