Healthy Holidays: Guest Precautions

One of the ways that you can make your guests welcomed into your home is to provide for their needs. Some needs are obvious, such as clean towels and enough to eat, while others may not be so obvious, such as ensuring that everyone stays safe.

Here are some safety precautions that you can take right now to make sure that you and your guests stay safe this holiday season.

For older guests

Make sure that the path from the guest bedroom to the guest bathroom is clear and well lit, even at night. Consider adding a small night light to the bathroom, so guests can find their way in the middle of the night in safety and without waking the whole household.

Quickly equip your bath for safety by adding a non slip bath mat and a grab bar to help older guests get in and out. In fact, if your older guests have some trouble with stairs, be sure to install grab bars at the top of any stair case to offer support when the railing ends.

For younger guests

Protect your youngest guests by picking up some child proofing kits and using them throughout your house. There are all sorts of devices available, depending on the age of the children who will be visiting. Doorknob covers that prevent little hands from opening doors, latches to protect them from harmful items and even stover guards are all available.

Also make sure to coral cords out of the way so little ones don’t pull things down on themselves and outlet covers to prevent electrical shocks.

For everyone

Make sure that getting in an out of the house is easy to do with marked path lights and updated locks that are easy for everyone to operate.

Be prepared in the event of a fire (especially with all of that cooking), by keeping a fire extinguisher on hand and replacing the batteries in smoke and heat detectors throughout your home.
