Studies tell us that Americans are a lot more out of shape than we used to be in the past. Since we want to keep our families healthy, what better way could there be to do so than to insure that we stay active?
By planning fun physical activities, you’re family won’t mind getting up, getting moving, and getting in shape. You’ll have the chance to spend more time together, have more fun together, and help keep each other fit.
So, what kinds of things can you do together? Many health experts suggest family walks, especially in the evening, after dinner. This is a good idea, and you can make it more interesting by counting the number of red cars you see along the way or implementing other such games.
To kick it up a notch, try having a family dance contest. The last person still dancing gets to pick out a game or movie for later. It’s also fun to teach your kids some of your best moves, you know, those dances that are soooo last century.
Did you like to dance as a kid? Maybe you still do. Get really funky and show them some of those wild steps you used to do. This activity is always good for some laughs. Be warned that it is also a sure way to realize your age, once you check out some of the moves your kids are doing. Try to keep up!
Here’s another one that’s not only good for a little physical activity but is also guaranteed to bring some laughs. Tape your own workout video as a family. Dress up in your best workout clothes (mine are sweats), turn on some tunes, and let everyone take turns leading the workout.
You may not get any fitness awards doing these things, but you’ll definitely have a good time together, and you’ll get everybody up and moving.
