My sister-in-law was going to a baby shower the other day and we were talking about the things we’ve learned since our kids were born. There are a lot of things we received both before and after the baby was born that we never used and very few things we could say as an absolute that we needed to have.
Between the two of us, we did some brainstorming and there was one item that we both came back to again and again as a definite must have for any mom and her baby whether she is on child number one or child number 5.
The Heart Beat Bear
When Cassidy was two weeks old, my mother-in-law gave me one of the best gifts I ever received. It was a heartbeat teddy bear. The Mommy Bear Sleep Aid was controlled by a simple on and off switch and it made a gentle thump-thump sounding just like the heart does inside the body. If you take a stethoscope and listen to your heartbeat then you will be experiencing what the baby experienced for the first nine months of existence while in the womb.
The heart beat bear is a great way to provide the baby with a source of comfort that not only helps them go to sleep, but will soothe them to going back to sleep when they wake up a little. It’s a great way to teach them how to go back to sleep on their own, but also to provide them with the nurturing comfort that is the sound of mom’s heartbeat.
Cuddle Factor
The bear with the beating heart is great as they get older too, because all children love to cuddle. They can cuddle the bear to them and snuggle up. My nine-month old (wow time flies) nephew loves to snuggle up to his bear and my sister-in-law will drive clear across town to pick it up if she’s forgotten it because when he goes to bed at night. He wraps his arms around him and goes to sleep.
I have to say that hands down – the heart beat bear is the best present I ever received and the one that I love to give to other moms-to-be.
What are some of the best presents you’ve received for your baby?
