Are you trying to lose weight but find the pounds not coming off, as you want? If so, you are certainly not alone. Millions of people are battling the bulge and feeling frustrated that the goal is not being reached. Okay, so how can you lose weight and then keep it off. For starters, I would encourage every reader to learn everything possible about the body and nutrition. The more educated you can become the more power you have to get the weight off and keep it off. Interestingly, most people understand little about proper nutrition. Therefore, go to your library and check out books specific to nutrition and you will be amazed at how many unhealthy things are being consumed.
You also want to stop the diet and change your lifestyle. Diets fail because they are too restrictive or boring. With so many fad diets out there, that should tell you that something is wrong. After all, why are “experts” continually revamping diets? The best solution, which is an easy solution, is to change your lifestyle, which means to eat well-balanced foods consisting of lean meats, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and good carbohydrates, as well as incorporating exercise into your daily regimen.
Then, start to pay attention to your body’s signals. After all, most of us eat even when we are not hungry. The body is made to have hunger pangs when food is needed. Until that time, any food is simply stored away as fat. For some reason, Americans have become accustomed to eating at 8:00 a.m., noon, and then 6:00 p.m., whether hungry or not. Listen to your body, paying attention to when you actually need to be refueling. When you do this, you will be amazed at how much less food you eat.
When you exercise, do what you enjoy. While some people enjoy going to the gym and lifting weights, many people do not enjoy it. In fact, to some people, exercise is torture. If you choose some type of physical activity that you enjoy, you will stick with it and therefore, lose weight. For example, I live a few miles from the Missouri River. The small town in which I live has a beautiful park with a four-mile walking trail running parallel to the river, only 15 feet away. I go down to the park every day and walk four to five miles. The scenery is beautiful, people are out and about walking, running, or walking the dog, and the entire time is enjoyable.
Another important part of losing weight and being successful at it is to start keeping a journal of what you eat, the time of day or night that you eat, and the quantity of food you eat. Chances are you will find that you eat out of frustration, boredom, fear, loneliness, and so on. This type of addictive eating is what starts putting the pounds on or stops the pounds from coming off. By understand the food choices you are making and the reasons you are eating, you can make the needed corrections and finally, lose the weight.
