Hershey’s Gridiron Cake

You cannot have a Super Bowl party without a great dessert! Chances are, after eating all your other delicious recipes, the crowd will be full, but you will want to have a dessert ready for later. And what better dessert to present to the football crowd than the Hershey’s Gridiron Cake? This incredible sheet cake is decorated to look like a football field – only its players are made of chocolate Kisses and peanut butter cups!

For this cake, you will need butter, Hershey’s coca powder, white sugar, flour, baking soda, eggs, sour cream, vanilla frosting, food coloring (green, red and yellow), one 10 ounce package of Hershey’s premier white chips, one 8 ounce package of Reese’s Pieces, a bag of Hershey’s Kisses, a bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups miniatures, a bag of Hershey’s Hugs chocolates, a bag of Hershey’s Rolo chocolates, and 2 Twizzler strawberry licorice twists.

Heat your oven to 350 degrees. You will need a 15-1/2 x10-1/2xone-inch disposable foil baking pan. Grease and flour your pan. Combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of butter, and 1/2 cup of cocoa powder in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the mixture boils. Boil for one minute then set aside.

Mix 2 cups of white sugar, 1 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a large bowl. Then stir in 3 eggs and 3/4 cup of sour cream. Add your cocoa mixture and beat until blended. Pour into your pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes then allow cake to cool on a wire rack.

To make your chocolate frosting, combine 1 tablespoon of cocoa into 1/3 cup of your white frosting. Tint another 1/3 cup of frosting orange by blending 1 drop of red food coloring and 2 drops of yellow. Tint the remaining 1/3 cup of frosting green by blending 2 – 3 drops of green food coloring.

On your cake, mark the end zones of your football field by frosting one end brown and one end orange. Frost the field area (the rest of the cake) with green frosting. Mark each 5-yard line with a wooden pick then place white chips across the line.

Using your white chips, spell out HERSHEY’S on the chocolate end zone. Use brown Reese’s Pieces to mark the goal line. Use yellow Reese’s Pieces to spell out REESE’S in the orange end zone. Use orange Reese’s Pieces to mark that goal line.

Remove the Kisses, peanut butter cups, Rolos, and Hugs from their wrappers. Use the Kisses to arrange one team and the peanut butter cups to arrange another team on the “field.” Use your Hugs as referees on the field.

Finally, use the 3 stacked Rolos for the goal posts on each end of the field. Shape your strawberry twist as a U and use frosting to glue that to the top of your Rolos.

Your cake may look so cute that your guests will not want to eat it. But once they dig in, they will love it!
