If you are expecting your baby to be born during or even slightly after the holidays, why not consider choosing a holiday-related baby name? Oh, I’m not talking about anything too goofy, such as “Tinsel,” although that would certainly be unique. Did you know that the name, “Timothy,” has long be associated with Christmas? Take a look at some of the following ideas for a holiday baby name.
I remember the first time I realized that someone’s name could be associated with a holiday. It was a girl I met when I was just a girl myself. Her name was Noel, and I thought it was just a beautiful name. While we traded “click clacks,” turned our noses up at “Garbage Pail Kids,” and jumped rope together, I always envied her the name, “Noel.” It made me think of Christmas and sparkle and snow. My name on the other hand (which I have grown to appreciate of course) reminded me of Catholic saints and Gilligan’s Island.
My daughter was born not to far from the holiday of Thanksgiving, and I jokingly threatened to name her Butterball (for the Turkey). I didn’t realize how many baby names are actually associated with the holidays. Had I did, I wonder if we would have named her differently.
Here are some names that I have gathered that are inspired or associated with the holidays. I’ve included an explanation if the associate seems obscure.
- Faith
- Hope
- Christmas (Chrissy)
- Christie (for Christ)
- Timothy (The name means “God’s honor.” It will forever be associated with Christmas through Dicken’s beloved story, The Christmas Carol and Tiny Tim.
