Holiday Travel: Don’t Procrastinate

left

The big takeaway from travel experts this holiday season: Don’t procrastinate.

This year, more than ever before, experts are advising to make a plan and act on it now, especially if you are looking to book a bargain.

Christmas may still be more than a month away, but if you want to secure a spot on a plane, train or at a popular resort, now is the time to make your reservation. Most hotels have strict deadlines for their holiday specials, and the dates seem to get earlier and earlier each year.

For example, this year, Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, Colorado, is offering a December getaway package, but you only have until the next week to take advantage of the deeply discounted deal. The special includes up to 40% off on lodging, up to 25% off on lift tickets, free ski/snowboard rentals for up to two people, and a $50 gift card to Beano’s Cabin–an award-winning restaurant located atop Beaver Creek mountain–for dinner.

Family skiing holidays are extremely popular in the weeks leading up to and following Christmas. However, if you want to stretch your dollar on the adventurous escape, it’s a good idea to research accommodations before you commit. Clans traveling with kids should look for resorts that feature ski schools or childcare services, so that parents have a chance to tackle more challenging slopes. Lodgings with on-site childcare also provide mom and dad with the opportunity to dine alone if they wish while their kids have fun taking part in organized activities. In most cases, the charge for childcare is not included in a package deal. However, some resorts offer kids’ activities at a discounted rate depending on your length of stay, room type, and dates. Remember: You are more likely to snag a money-saving deal if you stay midweek. Weekends are peak times for ski resorts.
