I know you’ve seen this. Walk down any drugstore diet aisle and you’ll see a trim shapely starlet looking back at you from the bottle of juice that calls itself the Hollywood 48 Hour Miracle Diet. I’ve seen it so many times and wondered if it actually worked or if it was just a bunch of hooey. Some of you may have wondered the same thing, so I’ve decided to take one for the team, so to speak, and give this product a try.
According to their website:
“The Hollywood 48 Hour Miracle Diet is a special “Miracle Juice” that has been scientifically formulated, so that in just 48 hours you will cleanse your body and lose up to 10 pounds! It was created to give your internal body a “vacation” by washing away unhealthy toxins and fat, and giving your digestive system a much needed break. The Hollywood 48 Hour Miracle Diet is 100% natural and is a special blend of essential fruits, vitamins minerals, antioxidants and essential oils.”
I bought the 32 ounce bottle this morning at WalMart for $14.84. I’d had a pretty clean breakfast so I figured I could start this diet at noon and just see what happens by noon two days from now.
The instructions say to mix one 4-ounce serving with 4 ounces of bottled water and sip it over the next 4 hours. I decided to mix mine one day at a time, so I mixed 16 ounces (24 hours worth) with 16 ounces of water in a pitcher. Since the diet recommends you drink lots of water, I didn’t see the harm in watering it down a little as well. The instructions also tell me not to consume any food, alcohol or caffeine and not to use tobacco while doing this diet. (It looks to me like there shouldn’t be a problem with me drinking my green tea.)
You’re probably wondering what is in it. There is a combination of the following: pineapple, apple, and orange juices; apricot, peach and banana purees; bergamot, tangerine, lemon and orange oils; and a whole host of vitamins (especially B complex vitamins) to keep your energy up. I don’t know if you could call it a “miracle juice” since you could probably mix it up at home, but I guess we’ll see what happens.
It doesn’t taste bad. I wouldn’t drink it for breakfast every day but the dominant flavor is apricot and I rather like apricots so it isn’t as if I need to choke it down like other diet products!
So the goal here is to stop eating completely and do a 48-hour juice fast. Most people lose at least a little weight when they stop eating altogether, so I have doubts about the miracle factor. Since I’m supposed to only consume 800 calories over the course of the next 2 days, I’d say we should expect to see some weight loss (but it might just be water and muscle). I’ll keep you posted on some very important things like hunger and energy levels and, most importantly – weight loss.
