Actor Will Ferrell claims he has a surefire way for you to win the parent of the year award. The bad news: It doesn’t come cheap. (Surprise, surprise.) But, the good news is that every penny goes to a great cause.
The movie star is auctioning a cameo spot in his new film to raise money for a fraternity brother’s cancer foundation. The opening bid for the movie appearance is $5,000. Ferrell calls the auction the best place in the world for you to purchase the perfect Christmas present for your son or daughter—-the chance to work with him.
You can start bidding online beginning tomorrow. The auction ends on September 26th and Ferrell will announce the winner the following day. The winner will meet the actor on September 28th at the 14th annual Cancer for College golf tournament dinner at Temecula Creek Inn. Then, in October, the highest bidder will join Ferrell on set of his new movie, “Step Brothers,” and appear in a scene.
The auction is all the actor’s idea. He says he came up with the plan in an effort to help Craig Pollard’s Cancer for College foundation. Ferrell and Pollard were fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California. Pollard is a two-time survivor of Hodgkin’s disease and started Cancer for College to provide college scholarships to current and former cancer patients. The charity has awarded $200,000 to 50 cancer survivors since 1993.
Meanwhile, Peter Fonda is doing some auctioning of his own. The award-winning actor is selling off some of his memorabilia from “Easy Rider,” including the American flag taken from the back of the jacket he wore throughout the film.
Fonda, who produced, co-wrote and co-starred in the groundbreaking movie says he “just decided it was time to share some of his treasures with collectors and fans.”
Great news for you movie memorabilia collectors, though don’t come to the auction with a skinny wallet. The flag alone has an estimated value of $50,000. Other items up for bid on October 6th include a Department of Defense pin that adorned Fonda’s jacket, the actor’s gold record for the film’s soundtrack album, and his collection of six movie posters, including those for “Easy Rider” and “Ulee’s Gold.”
