Well, I guess they can’t all be as outspoken as Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Streisand…
New information is surfacing daily in regards to how much money celebrities are shelling out to their political preferences—most notably the ones who do it in a less conspicuous manner than the stars I mentioned above.
The politically progressive website run by Arianna Huffington recently revealed how much cash big name celebs are donating to the 2008 presidential candidates’ campaigns. As you may have well guessed most of Hollywood’s A-listers are backing the Democrats.
For example, Huffington Post’s FundRace 2008 shows that actress Jennifer Aniston has donated $2,300 to Barack Obama’s campaign ($2,300 is the maximum donation allowed for the Democratic primary). Likewise, Oscar winner Halle Berry also contributed $2,300 to the Illinois senator, according to the list. Interestingly, both actresses are very good friends of Oprah Winfrey who has not been shy about letting the country know that she wants to see Obama in the White House. (Winfrey called Obama “my favorite guy” and “my choice” on CNN’s “Larry King Live” last year before he announced he would run for president.)
The talk show host is also hosting a massive fundraiser for Obama’s presidential campaign next month. That too is also garnering a fair share of headlines—namely because it was reportedly sold out within hours of being announced. It costs $2,300 per person to attend the event at Winfrey’s sprawling Santa Barbara mansion and according to the Chicago Sun-Times, interest has been so great potential donors have been turned away.
According to the newspaper, Beyonce Knowles may sing at the event, and Jamie Foxx may entertain, too. By the way, Foxx was also listed on Huffington’s post as having donated $2,300 to Obama. Other supporters include George Clooney, Will Smith, and Tyra Banks (also all close friends of Miss Oprah).
Not to be outdone, Hillary Clinton has found financial supporters in Donald Trump Jr., who gave $4,000 to her campaign, and Martha Stewart who handed over $4,600. (Supporters are allowed to donate $4,600 total for both the primary and general elections.)
On the Republican side, celebrity supporters include Kelsey Grammer who has donated $2,300 to Rudolph Giuliani’s campaign efforts, and actor Ben Stein who donated $750 to Team Rudy.
