Justin Timberlake the singer/actor/fashion designer/restaurant owner is adding a new line to his resume—philanthropist.
The 27-year-old former Mouseketeer is making headlines for digging deep and giving big to aid two organizations close to his heart.
Last week, the Memphis native donated $100,000 each to the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum and the Memphis Music Foundation in an effort to support music education.
Timberlake dropped off the checks during a break from filming his new movie “The Open Road,” which is being shot not far from his boyhood Tennessee town.
Executives with the organizations say they will use Timberlake’s contributions to advance music education for local students and further achieve its mission of “telling the story of Memphis Music and perpetuating its legacy.”
Meanwhile, actor Johnny Depp is reaching out to aid a comatose British girl who is fighting for her life.
According to news reports, the parents of 17-year-old Sophie Wilkinson from Southampton, England contacted the award-winning Hollywood celeb after their daughter was critically injured in a car crash last year.
In their letter to Depp, Wilkinson’s parents told the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star that he was their daughter’s favorite actor. The actor was reportedly so moved by the teen’s plight that he resolved to do whatever he could to help her.
According to Wilkinson’s father, Depp agreed to record a voice message for his daughter in the voice of his “Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow, which will be played to her in the hope it will help bring her out of the life-threatening coma. In addition, Depp is reportedly rearranging his work schedule so he can visit the sick teen at the hospital.
The girl’s father says Depp’s generosity is “amazing” and revealed that doctors and family members are constantly looking for “the key to wake her up.”
Could Depp be the “key?” If so, it sure would make for a great movie.
