Hollywood’s Shortest Marriages

Marriage is hard for everyone, but it appears to be especially hard for the celebrities. Once a celebrity couple reaches their 10-year anniversary, it is like 50 years for a normal human marriage. What were some of the shortest marriages in Hollywood? Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Those that Knew All Too Well…All Too Soon

Some stars just seem to know the marriage is a mistake from the start. Take Actor/Producer Robert Evans and Actress Catherine Oxenberg for example. They married on July 12, 1998 and had the marriage annulled on July 21, 1998, a mere 9 days later. But, considering they had only known each other for four days, maybe a 9 day marriage was appropriate. Actor Dennis Hopper and Singer/Actress Michelle Phillips were married for 8 days in 1971. Is that still not short enough for you? Ernest Borgnine and Ethel Merman were married 2 days in 1964 before calling it quits. Then there is always Britney Spears with her 55-hour marriage to Jason Allen Alexander.

Those That Were Together Forever…Until Matrimony Took Place

How can you stay with someone for years when dating, then shortly after marriage, you get divorced? I just don’t understand it. Actress Drew Barrymore dated Comedian Tom Green for well over a year. In that amount of time, they survived both his cancer and her house fire. I figured they could survive anything, but I was wrong. They married in July of 2001 and were divorcing a mere 5 months later. But, that is much better than Drew’s first marriage that lasted just under a month. Oscar winner Helen Hunt dated fellow actor Hank Azaria for over ten years before marrying in 2000. Perhaps they should have stayed boyfriend and girlfriend as the marriage only lasted 11 months.

Maybe it is harder for celebrities being in the public eye. Perhaps the hardship of being apart during filming or touring destroys relationships. Or, maybe celebrities just like rushing into marriage. What do you think?
