Hollywood’s Winners and Losers—The Sweet Smell of Success and the Agony of Aging

Here we go again…

Yet another female celeb has decided her sense for scents is good enough to launch her own perfume.

Rapper turned actress Queen Latifah has become the latest star to release a new fragrance line. (Actually, her perfume won’t be in stores until next year.)

I know. I know. Another celeb, another scent to be doused with as you make your way through the cosmetics department at Macy’s.

The reason I decided to blog about Queen Latifah’s fragrance launch is because I was intrigued by her response to the question: “Why add one more perfume to an already saturated market?”

Latifah’s answer: “For me, beauty really does start on the inside. It’s like a state of mind, a state of love, if you will. So, I see fragrance as just a natural expression of this state of love: Scent expresses a woman’s confidence and sensuality. It’s how she embraces her body, her mind and her strength.”

Come again?

Is she serious? Or is she simply a master of memorization? I mean come on… someone in her marketing division must have dug deep for that one.

Lindsay Lohan (almost), Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez have all launched their own fragrances and I don’t remember a single one referring to their perfumes as “natural expressions of love.”

Moving on…

Could it be? Could British model Kate Moss really be loosing her touch?

According to news reports, the super skinny model has lost her $1 million contract with a lingerie giant. And that’s not even the worst part… adding insult to injury is the fact that Moss has reportedly been placed by a 20-year-old looker.

It’s true; Moss, who once held the title of the world’s richest model, has been axed as the cover model for lingerie firm Agent Provocateur. British newspaper The Sun says Alice Dellal, an unknown model 14-years Moss’ junior, will replace the catwalk queen.

A source tells the paper, “Everyone is stunned. Kate’s shots were really well received, but bosses thought it time to move on.”

Moss washed up at 34? Somehow I doubt it.
