Do you love yoga? Many people enjoy the way that yoga benefits their body, mind and spirit. Although you can do yoga by yourself at home either in front of a yoga video on TV or from memory by creating your own sequence of poses, many people prefer to go to yoga classes. Yoga instructors can help both beginners and advanced yoga students to ensure that they are performing the movements safely in addition to teaching new poses and sequences. The group atmosphere in a yoga class also helps with motivation – it is easier to push yourself to make it through a tough sequence when others around you are doing the same.
What does all of this have to do with home-based business? If you are a certified yoga instructor or have the time and resources available to become one, you could turn your passion for yoga into your very own OM-based business (um, I mean, home-based business). There are a few things to consider when thinking about whether to open a yoga studio in your home.
The first item of business is, of course, certification. Different states and nations have different rules about exactly who can hold themselves out as a yoga instructor so you must learn the rules and figure out whether you meet the qualifications or are able to get the training that you need in order to become certified. As with any business that brings clients into your home, you’ll also want to check local zoning ordinances to make sure that you can have such a business at your home. Is there a suitable place for a yoga studio in your home, or can you make one with the budget that you have? As an added bonus, if there is an outdoor space that is private (no one wants the neighbors watching them as they raise their bottom as high into the air as they can to fully max out their downward dog pose) and pleasant than this may attract people to your location for classes. You will also want to consider your family’s needs and temperament – are they comfortable with people coming into your home for yoga classes? Are they able to keep a respectful distance or is there a way that you can schedule classes when the kids are in school or with someone else? These are just the most basic things to consider when thinking about starting a home-based yoga studio. If it is the right home-based business for you, you are likely to enjoy making a business out of something that you really love and would be doing anyways.
