Home Chore List: Daily Chores Extra Credit

Have you been keeping up with your daily chores? How have they been working for you? I am happy to say that at the moment, most of my downstairs is in pretty good shape.

To review, here are the list of daily chores that we have been following:

  • Make the beds
  • Put dirty clothes in the hamper
  • Clean up daily spills
  • Wash the dishes
  • Wipe the kitchen.

You can get the details of the how and why by reading the earlier articles, Home Chore List: Daily Cleaning Chores (1), and Home Chore List: Daily Cleaning Chores (2). There are some tips in those articles to help make the cleaning go a little easier.

Now, we are ready for the extra credit daily cleaning! Oh don’t worry if you aren’t ready, yet; you will be. You can start by adding just one extra credit item to your daily list, or plunge ahead with them all. And, if they don’t work for you, well, you’ll see these tasks again later in the semi-weekly or weekly lists.

On to the extra credit.

Do one load of laundry.

This is especially useful for larger families, although I know smaller families who do this by combining everything into one wash load, no matter the color, and washing it on cold. On the days when you find yourself hunting around for clothing to wash, grab those sheets, towels, rugs, high chair and car seat covers, etc. If you have to travel to a laundry mat, however, a daily laundry load may not be practical.

Jonesx6 has some great tips for daily laundry: throw a load in when you are in between tasks and get the kids to help.

Vacuum your worst room.

Generally the kitchen or dining room could use a quick vacuum or sweep on a daily basis, especially if you have those little crumb generators, also known as young children. Here is a secret of mine. I take my broom and sweep the crumbs into a pile. Then I get one of the kids to grab the dust buster and vacuum them up.

Wipe down the bathroom.

Having a sparkling bathroom that is company ready all of the time. Fill a spray bottle with vinegar and water or use a commercial cleanser, such as Windex. Spray the sink and toilet and do a quick wipe with a rag or a paper towel. You can also use a disinfecting wipe, if that is easier.

Don’t forget to check back again, when we will start on the semi-weekly tasks.
