In the previous Home Chore List article, I talked about how having a home chore list can help you be more organized and keep you on track with maintaining and cleaning your home.
For this article, I’ll talk about some of the cleaning chores that should be done on a daily basis, along with some that can be done for extra credit, if you really want to be on top of your game. As I mentioned in that other article, these lists should serve as a guideline for your household. You can try them out as is, but I won’t be upset if you change them around to suite your family, your household, and your lifestyle.
Things to do everyday:
Make the beds.
There is nothing that makes your bedrooms look messier than having unmade beds. Plus, it is something nice that you do for yourself. Who can really look forward to a rumpled bed at night? Children as young as three can be taught to make their beds (even though you’ll have to go in and redo them, at least you are teaching them a good habit).
Put dirty clothes in the hamper.
Clothes either belong in drawers or on hangers. They don’t belong on the bed, under the bed, on a chair, etc. Get everyone into the habit of escorting the dirty clothes where they belong, preferably as soon as they are taken off. A trick I have for PJs is to place them under the pillows. This way they are out of sight, yet they can be worn for more than one night. Hang up jackets, coats, etc.
Clean up the daily spills.
Hopefully you can do this as they occur. But if everything is too hectic, take a few minutes out of your evening to find and demolish spills and crumbs. If you don’t get this on a daily basis, the results can be disheartening. Ever have someone else’s child unearth a three-day-old tortellini from under the couch and place it in his mouth? ‘Nuff said.
We still have a small number of daily tasks to go, as well as the extra credit list. Please check back again!
