Home Chore List: Monthly Cleaning Chores

Not sure how often certain things around your home should be cleaned? Well, take a look at out Home Chore List series for some guidelines on all of the things that need some cleaning attention.

We certainly have been doing a lot with our lists, haven’t we. And now that we have pretty much gotten our daily and weekly cleaning down, I think it is time to go straight to the items on the monthly list, without getting into a detailed discussion about the whys or hows. Of course, we can always tackle some tips on any of these items, as they come up. But for now, I think we can move ahead with just the items themselves.

Remember that this list is just a guideline. For example, if you don’t have ceiling fans, then you can’t dust them! Adapt the list as it makes sense for your family.

Here are my suggestions for a monthly cleaning list:

  • Vacuum or dust all of your window treatments, such as curtains, blinds and shutters
  • If you have carpet, use your vacuum hose or attachment to get the edges and corners of your carpet where dirt and hair can hide out.
  • Dust your ceiling fans
  • Dust or clean chandeliers, lamp shades and light fixtures
  • Dust or wipe down the woodwork, the tops of doors, etc.
  • Wash your bath mats and kitchen rugs
  • Check and replace the bag on your vacuum if necessary
  • Clean your hairbrushes, combs and makeup brushes
  • Clean out the refrigerator and wipe it down inside and out
  • Examine your kitchen cabinets and spot clean them if necessary
  • If you have a furnace filter, check and replace it if necessary.
  • Sweep out the garage area
  • Wipe down doorknobs, light switches and the phone
  • Wash your blankets, bedspreads and comforters

Next up will be our home chore list for the items that need to be done on a quarterly basis.
