With the Fall Season officially here, it is a great time to get going on those quarterly cleaning tasks in your home. Hopefully, you have been following along with the previous chore lists that gave us guidelines for daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks. If not, you can read or review them through the links at the end of this article.
An easy way to get in your quarterly cleaning tasks is to do them the week that the seasons change. This will help you remember to get them done. Also, some of the task may vary just slightly, according to the season and the weather changes.
Here is the list:
Change and clean any filters in your home, such as your furnace filter and any air conditioning filters you might have.
Clean your windows, screens and storm windows. Store the screens and/or the storm windows, if it is appropriate.
Wipe off your light bulbs as you dust. Just be sure that they are cool, first.
Take a look at all of those candles, baskets, knick-knacks, etc. Wash or thoroughly clean any items that need more than a dusting. Many items can go into the dishwasher. For delicate items, line the sink with a thick towel and wash them in warm, soapy water. For candles, a soft damp cloth will be best.
Turn or flip your mattresses for even wear. Here is an easy way to remember: Spring or Summer = Spin, so spin the mattress in the spring and then again in the summer. Fall or Freeze = Flip, so flip your mattress over in the fall and then again in the winter. If you have a no-flip mattress as I do, just spin it counter clockwise (or clockwise if that is easier to remember) each season.
Launder the bed skirts if you have them.
Dust and straighten your closets as you change your seasonal clothing.
Clean your humidifiers and dehumidifiers, if it applies. There is a great little treatment solution out there that will prevent any mold from growing in your unit. Or use some white vinegar.
Flip the cushions on your sofa and chairs for even wear.
Do you have any other tasks that you like to do on a quarterly basis?
