We might have a tendency to ignore or put off the twice-a-year chores, but getting them done will make a big difference in how your home looks and how clean it is. A good time to do these chores is once time each in the Fall and the Spring, when the weather should be cooperating. However, you can also adopt a four-time-a-year attitude by splitting the list in half and designating a time each time the season changes to get some of the chores done, fall, winter, spring summer. But I would rather get them all over with, if possible.
Some more strategies fro twice-a-year tasks? Pick a day and get the whole family involved, or just tackle a few tasks a day for a week. Just be consistent, and your chores will get done in no time.
Here is our list for the cleaning chores that should be done twice a year:
Clean the oven.
Even self-cleaning ovens can use a bit of attention at least twice a year. There is always a spill or baked on bits that could use a scrub. And if you have a glass viewing window, make sure that is shined up.
Clean the stove hood and exhaust fan.
Stove hoods and exhaust fans have a tendency to gather grease. So do the undersides of built in microwaves or the shelves they sit upon. In our house, we have an old-fashioned exhaust fan that sits in the wall. I’ll need to take that apart as well as I can to get it thoroughly cleaned.
Clean out the freezer.
While we are in the kitchen, let’s talk about the freezer. Admit it. There are probably some mystery meals in their that you just didn’t have time to label. Yeah, you see them every time you open the freezer, but you just don’t have time to be adventurous. Well, now is the time to toss it out, along with anything else that is past its due or hasn’t earned its keep. Empty everything, give the freezer a thorough cleaning and then put whatever you are keeping back. Look for future articles with tips on freezer cleaning.
