Home Decorating: Color Trends ‘07

warm colors cinnamon apple pumpkin nuttyThe best way to describe this year’s color trends for the home is pure comfort. Warm “comfort food” colors, colors from nature, and bold colors accented with contrasting neutrals are coming to life this year. The trend of bringing the outdoors in continues.

deep reds purples plumComfort colors run the range from cocoa and nutty flavors to those that remind us of our favorite home baked pies, including shades reminiscent of pumpkin pie and baked apples with cinnamon. These popular shades and tones are described in terms such as spicy, homey, and comforting. Aside from warm oranges, tans, beiges, and browns, we will also be seeing more warm reds and purples with a bit of an Asian feel when mixed with black.

At the other end of the spectrum, we move from rich, deep tones to lighter and brighter colors such as blues, greens, and yellows. Think trees, leaves, grasses, flowers, sun, and sky. Combine these with browns found in nature and other outdoorsy neutrals.

Contrast will also once again be big, instead of more subdued and easily blended colors. White and black, rich browns with subtle beiges, and warmer tones against cool colors will add interest to decorating projects, treatments, furnishings, and accessories. Finishes will include some natural elements as well as metallic choices from copper to brass.

From rich to soothing, these colors will be used in fabrics meant to inspire a sense of casual elegance for everyday family life as well as entertaining.

Can you see these colors in your home? Can you picture mouthwatering pumpkin in the kitchen, soothing blue in the bedroom, sunny yellow in the bath with shiny fixtures and accessories? Maybe you see deep reds in dining room or family room with trims and accessories in deeply contrasting colors such as a glossy black.

Do any of these colors or combinations give you the urge to decorate?
