Whether it’s engaging in special traditions annually for holidays and other occasions, or daily routines like bath time play or tucking the little ones into bed with kisses and hugs and maybe stories and songs, the rituals we follow help make home the place we want to be. Even though visits can be exciting and fun, it’s always good to be back home.
Although we may not give it much thought as we work our way through each day, we all have them. What kinds of things do you and your families do?
Aside from the daily and special occasion items, what other interesting things occur in your home on a regular or semi-regular basis?
My husband travels at times. He’s visited many different states. He likes to bring me back a coffee mug from the various places he goes. The latest mug in my collection is from Rhode Island.
I’m a coffee lover. Absolutely love it. Any kind, any flavor, any time of day. I also like special coffee mugs, so I found it incredibly sweet when he brought that first mug home to let me know he was thinking of me while he was away. In fact, each time he brings me a new one, I feel the same way.
I like to make sure his return is well met. I like to make him a nice home cooked me, the aroma greeting him at the door, and make sure some of his favorite snacks are on hand. I record his favorite show. I pick up soda and make sure there’s plenty of ice and that the house is tidy. I try to make sure there is a big, fluffy bath towel for him (five girls can go through a load of towels before you can say spin cycle). It’s welcoming and let’s him know he’s been missed.
So often, it’s the little things like these that just make home feel so good.
