My family loves the Hamburger Helper meals. The most popular one is Chili Macaroni. Hamburger Helper is a great way to save us some time in the kitchen. Most of the time, you just need to add the meat, usually hamburger, turkey or chicken, and sometimes milk. Add a can of vegetables or maybe a salad and some rolls. You can make it Mexican or Italian. Your cooking time is cut down to less than thirty minutes.
I have been making Chili Macaroni from a recipe instead of a box for a long time now. My kids love the taste of it and I can increase the spicy flavor when I want to. My kids love to help make it with me. That is why I end up making it instead of buying it. You can decrease the amount of chili powder if it is too spicy. You can also add green chili peppers to give it an extra kick. You can also add different cheeses to suit your taste.
To make it, you will need:
1 pound of ground beef
3/4 cup of chopped onion
1 can light red kidney beans, drained
1 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
1 can diced tomatoes, chili seasoned
1/2 cup of elbow macaroni
1 green pepper, diced
3 teaspoons of chili powder
1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt
1/2 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese or Mozzarella cheese
What to do:
In a skillet, cook meat and onion until done; drain fat. Meanwhile, cook macaroni according to directions. Add the following to the meat mixture: beans, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, chili powder, garlic salt and 1/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add macaroni and simmer 10 more minutes. Top with cheese. Enjoy!
