Forget the expensive spa products. Make your own beauty products at home and save. it is easy when you have a food processor and just a few minutes. You can whip up your own products, and maybe even gift, trade or sell them. Of course, you’ll want to take advantage of using these great chemical free beauty products yourself.
Let us start with the honeydew skin care. I choose this type to start the homemade skin care series for a number of reasons. The first is that honeydew is a hot beauty ingredient right now. It seems that every major better skin care product line contains honeydew-based products. Honeydew is also in season right now. It is a late summer fruit, so picking it up should be relatively inexpensive.
Honeydew contains a lot of vitamin C, which is essential for skin tissue repair. It is a natural anti-oxidant. Honeydew also smells wonderfully refreshing.
Whole Foods Magazine has a wonderful recipe for a DIY Honeydew scrub that I think is perfect. The recipe below is adapted from it.
Get your melon, cut it out of the skin and seed it. You’ll need about 1/4 ripe melon for one batch, but I would go ahead and use the whole melon and just share or store the remainder. You’ll want to keep it tightly covered in the refrigerator and use within a day or two.
Mash the melon and place it in a large bowl. Chop three fresh mint leaves and mix them with the melon.
Place about 1/4 cup of dry oats in a food processor or food grinder and mince them up. add the oats to the melon mixture and stir until you get a nice blended consistency. Use less oats for a finer texture and more for a thicker scrub, depending on how you like it.
This honeydew and oats scrub can be used on either your face or your body.
