Last year my young daughter made me the cutest Mother’s Day card. The glittery handmade creation was so beautiful that after I gushed over it and thanked her profusely for being so thoughtful, my daughter asked for it back so she could hang it in her bedroom.
At least the kid’s got good taste.
If you are looking for a simple way to make Mother’s Day a bit brighter for the special woman in your life, and you have a little one at home that is more than willing to lend their artistic talents to the project, then consider this easy craft:
MOM’S DAY BUTTERFLY CARD
Materials:
Construction paper
Pencil
Scissors
Hole punch
Glue stick
Markers or crayons
Embellishments: stickers, glitter, glitter glue, buttons, sequins, etc.
Directions:
Fold two pieces of construction paper in half, so they look like to two cards.
Place the two folded cards together–one inside the other.
Along the fold of one of the cards, draw half a butterfly. (It doesn’t have to be fancy, just the wings are fine).
Keeping the two cards together, cut along the lines you just drew. You now have two butterflies.
On one of the butterflies, fold it in half again and draw a smaller butterfly within it.
Cut along the line you just drew.
Using the hole punch, make a series of holes along the edges of the two pieces you just cut out. (The holes can be random; let your child use his/her imagination.)
Glue one of these pieces onto the larger, uncut butterfly.
Flip the large butterfly over, and glue on the other cut piece.
Use a piece of brown construction paper and cut a body for your butterfly. (A long narrow piece that the wings can attach to will suffice.)
Glue the body to the inside of your butterfly.
Embellish the butterfly’s wings with markers, stickers, glitter, etc.
Allow card to dry thoroughly before having your child write a message on the card.
