Before you throw out or recycle your food packaging, consider repurposing it into festive boxes and wraps for the holidays or containers for your wrapping things. You’ll save money and a couple of trees, too.
Potato Chip Tube
You know those tubes that potato chips come packaged in? They are just perfect for packing cookies. You can even mail them, too. Take a clean tube and cover it in scrapbook paper, wrapping paper or even comics or newspaper. Add a ribbon and a gift tag to complete the gift.
Soup Cans
Turn soup cans or coffee cans into planters. My church does this to deliver the alter flowers. Simply cover a can with floral foil for a basic method. But if you really want the gift to shine, paint the can Santa red and then add a construction-paper santa belt to it.
Tissue Boxes
Empty tissue boxes can coral all sorts of things, from ribbon to gift tags. Most are already decorated for you.
Cereal Boxes
Despite trying to cut down on cold cereal, I still find way too many cereal boxes in my house. They make excellent boxes for shirts and other clothing gifts. Nowadays, it is hard to get free gift boxes at the stores with your purchase, so the cereal boxes stand in well. Just glue the wrapping paper down (or use scrap paper), so the images on the box itself don’t show through.
Tic Tac Boxes
You know that there has to be some use for those plastic breath mint boxes. It seems a waste not to use them. If you have any narrow ribbon, you can place it in these boxes and dispense it out of the top. The flip lid comes in hand for that. I’ve also found that they make good dispensers for glitter to decorate cards and packages.
