I was very excited to find a new homeschool co-op this year. I feel that homeschool co-ops are important for fellowship among moms, children developing friendships, support and advice. I have heard my share of homeschool co-op horror stories but we must remember that co-ops are run by people and you need to find a good fit for your family. Last year I did not spend a lot of time at a co-op due to a car situation. So, I am excited by a new co-op that has plenty of children and a friendly atmosphere.
In addition to the co-op having plenty of children around my kids’ ages the overall theme Is one of my favorite homeschool methods; Charlotte Mason. I love the Charlotte Mason method and will enjoy sharing this method with others. The co-op is structured around aspects of this method such as art study, music study, and nature journaling. The kids go on nature walks without fail every week. The lessons are structured enough to use within your own homeschool throughout the week if you chose. The children also study virtue, bible and drama. Parents can rotate and teach classes. The best part is the co-op is free, save any supplies, and there is no pressure to teach or attend every week.
Have you joined a homeschool co-op? If you do not have any in your area you may want to consider starting your own. Even if you start out with a few moms that is a great opportunity to spend some time with others on your homeschool journey. The support and friends for the kids will make it worth it. Consider structuring on based on your homeschool method of choice. Please share your thoughts and experiences.
