Fairs are a time to show what you know or give a visual representation of the progress of your study. It is a way for children to learn to present their ideas and to prepare for a public appearance. Here are some ideas to incorporate in your homeschool co-op.
Science Fair: The classic fair that every child should participate in at least once. I love science fairs because it has a wow factor for the adults and the children. Even the classic volcano is still a hit at the fairs. You can have a fair with a winner or not. Allow the children to choose the topic. Put parents at ease and let them know that projects from the simplest to the most complicated are accepted. It is a time for all to learn.

History Fair: For history buffs, like me, this is quite exciting and fun. Allow the child to pick any time frame or event to cover. Encourage them to dress like the time period. I love projects that are outside of the box like a history of Barbie, history of toys, or the progression of the car.
Geography Fair: Bring the world to your co-op for an evening. Serve foods from around the world. Encourage children to dress in the authentic clothing of the country they studied. Perhaps, some would like to do a project on natural wonders or trade routes like the Silk Road.
Art Fair: It is time to show off that creative spirit. If a child is not into art perhaps she can take an art history approach. Some may want to focus on an artist or a style like Impressionism.
Literature Fair: Bring a book to life by having children make displays about their favorite books or authors.
Use your imagination and come up with a fair that all will have fun and learn together.
