Homeschool Curriculum Glossary (Henty-History)

Hey Andrew! Teach me Greek

Henty Books on Tape (actually on CD) are great historical fiction recordings of books written by G.A. Henty. Both the books and recordings “are fiercely historically accurate and full of noble character – honesty, chivalry, integrity, courage, loyalty, diligence, charity and justice.” The recordings are an excellent storytelling school for a parent who cannot read aloud for an extended time, or a child who loves to listen to stories.

Hewitt Homeschooling Resources promotes a whole book approach to literature with Lightening Literature and Composition as their main focus. “Hewitt’s Lightning Literature and Composition guides use full-length novels, autobiographies, plays, essays, short stories, and poems to teach deep reading and composition skills. Unlike some literature programs that take a scatter-shot approach (where none of the literature seems connected) or that try to dump too much into one book, Lightning Literature guides focus on a few classics in depth, in a systematic manner. These guides are available for high school and junior high.”

Hey Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! from greeknstuff.com will help your child learn Koiné or “common” Greek which is not spoken today. Instead, it is the language of the Bible’s New Testament. Learning this form of Greek will help your child learn to decipher the bible in its original language.
