Last week, Christopher Klicka lost his fight to Mulitple sclerosis. He had suffered for the last 15 years and still continued to work for the HSLDA in spite of his severe illness.
Mr. Klicka was the first full time employee of the organization that led the fight for homeschool rights and continues to lead the battle. He worked in the roles of attorney, spokesman, and lobbyist. He fell into his final bought of severe illness while at a homeschool convention.
While I strongly disagree with some of the aspects of the HSLDA, particularly the some of the lobbying, I can’t argue that without the dedicated work of Christopher Klicka I could very well not be homeschooling my kids. He was a warrior for all of us even as he was at war with his own body. He sacrificed his health for the sake of our children and their educational freedom. He is an inspiration to me and will be missed by many.
If you would like to leave a tribute to Christopher Clicka visit the HSLDA memorial page.
In addition to working tirelessly for the HSLDA and the rights of homeschoolers, Christoper Klicka has also penned several books on homeschooling for the homeschooling community. They include:
The Heart of Homeschooling: Teaching & Living What Really Matters, Jul 2002
The Right to Home School: A Guide to the Law on Parents Rights in Education, April 2002
Why manners matter.(FROM THE TRENCHES): An article from: Practical Homeschooling, 2005
