Did you hear the one about the frustrated mom who was sick of wasting time and money idling her car in her daughter’s school pick-up line?
She ditched her vehicle for a horse and tried to gallop her way to the front of the line, but instead of getting her kid home in record time, the equine-loving mother got in trouble with police and ended up making national headlines.
According to reports, the Florida mom was irate with the way her daughter’s school was running their pick-up line. The Jacksonville elementary school recently implemented a new parking policy, whereby parents are made to line up in their cars and wait until their children are retrieved by the school staff one at a time.
For some moms and dads that means waiting up to two hours in line before being reunited with their student.
Apparently, the wait got to be too much for the horse-loving mom, who also noted that idling her vehicle in the pick-up line for one to two hours per day was putting a strain on her household budget. In the end, the mom decided to employ a more efficient means to retrieve her 8-year-old daughter.
According to police, the mom parked her horse trailer a few blocks away from the school and rode her trusty mare to pick-up her daughter. Only her plan hit a snag when the school’s principal refused to let the girl ride off on horseback with her mom. The principal would not to let go of the child’s hand, and police were called to usher the mom and her horse away.
“Our first priority is the safety of our children, and during our arrival/dismissal, their safety is first and foremost a priority on campus,” the school’s principal told news reporters.
Fortunately, the mom wasn’t arrested for her “unique” pick-up method. Instead, she was allowed to pack up her horse and drive home. Officers then drove the girl home in their squad car.
Reports say the school and the mom have yet to resolve their issues regarding the new pick-up policy.
Still, I think it goes without saying that the horse-riding mom proved her point.
Can you imagine having to wait an hour or two after school to pick up your kids?
